This web resource has been produced to help you get the most out of your time spent learning at college. It contains straight forward advice about how your learning skills might be affected by different disabilities, and how you can develop your skills.

You can either browse by:

Browse by Disability
To browse by
Disability, select the disability in the list that you can most relate to, for example,
ADHD and then click on search.
Here you will find information about your chosen disability and its associated strengths for study, work or life in general, a 'Self Help' section, and links to the skills that have been identified as those most likely to pose some challenges for your disability.
Browse by Skill
To browse by
Skill, select the skill in the list that you require, for example,
Group Work and then click on search.
Here you will find: a description of your chosen skill; information on how to improve your skills, and a list of the disabilities that can affect participation in the skill with links to take you to a page that explains what you and/or your teachers can do to help you succeed.

If you browse by
Skill and Disability, for example
Group Work and ADHD, and scroll down the page, you will find clear guidance on what you can do for yourself to develop your skills. It also describes the support and guidance you can get from your teachers.
Disability and Skill Guides
Alternatively you can download and print a copy of one of the
Disability and Skill Guides that contain all advice and guidance for all skills that can be affected by your disability. You can then take this to your tutor/teacher to negotiate adjustments on your course. It also contains information on financial support and how to disclose your disability.
Case Studies
There is also a page of
Case Studies in text, audio and video format describing students' experiences of disability and how they improved their skills.
Skills Self Check
Another tool on the website is the
Skills Self Check.
This will help you identify the skills you are good at - as well as the ones you might need to improve. Simply click on a skill in the list and have a look at the questions, compare the statement to your own performance or ability, you don't need to give yourself a score. If you would like to then improve your skills in this area, select 'click here' and you will be taken into the appropriate resource.
